Kathmandu, January 23, 2018: With the motive of fortifying youth leadership in Nepal, Leadership Academy, U.S. based Kroc School and Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (IPJ) and University of San Diego have commenced ‘Nepali Emerging Leaders Program 2018’.

This one-year long program aims to tailor 28 young leaders (14 men and 14 women) from 14 zones of the country. Aged between 25 to 40, these participants will have the opportunity of developing leadership skills in themselves.

For one year, 28 of these ‘emerging leaders’ of the country will receive training and mentoring from country’s experts and veteran politicians.

Santosh Shah, the President of Leadership Academy, mentioned, “The first phase of training has already been organized and now the second phase of three sessions – one each in the hills, mountains and the plains – will be organized.”

He shared that the leadership program would connect many enthusiastic youths of the country and weave a network of strong leadership capacity in them.

Lokendra Bahadur Chand, former Prime Minister and one of the mentors of the program indicated, “There were no such programs and organizations when I began my political career. The young leaders who have been selected for the program are lucky to get such an opportunity. I hope they will be able to work for the country’s development more effectively after completing the course.”

The event had various speakers voice their opinions. Nepali Congress leader and former deputy speaker Chitralekha Yadav, CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker and former sports minister Kamala Rokka, CPN-UML leader and former lawmaker Ratna Gurung, UN Women Nepal chief Wenny Kusuma, program officer of IPJ Daniel Orth addressed the function.

Representatives from UN organizations, political parties, former ministers and sitting lawmakers were present at the event.
