Nepal’s Performance: 1st SAFF Championship, 1993


Nepal have been a part of the South Asian Football Federtion (SAFF) Championship from the very early time in 1993 and had played 10 editions of the SAFF Cup and is yet to claim the championship.
Now, from today our member Anish Lamichhane will be dealing with all the performance of Nepal in every editions of the SAFF Championship from 1993 to 2013. So, stick with us for information about Nepali team’s performance in the mega event which will be posted each day.


SAFF Championship,1993 – Pakistan
The first SAFF Championship was held in Pakistan. The tournament was played in league format where every team will play each other which we also call round robin.
In the championship, only four nations took part. They were Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India along with Nepal. Nepal played draw against Pakistan and Sri Lanka and was defeated by the team India. With two draws and a loss in their overall matches, Nepal had to settle with two points. Therefore, Nepal finished third in the four nations championship with two points.
India was the champion of the first edition of the championship.
