Nepalgunj, 23rd December: Normal life in the western Tarai districts including in Banke has been difficult due to cold wave sweeping across the region over the past few days.
Mercury in the hilly region has also suddenly dipped, following snowfall a week ago. There is no sunshine in the western Tarai
districts as sky is mostly overcast the whole day. All flights to and from the Nepalgunj Airport have been disrupted owing to low visibility caused by adverse weather, the Nepalgunj Office of Civil Aviation Authority of the Nepal said.
Increasing cold coupled with cold wave has adversely affected the people’s daily life, forcing them confined into the house. Government officers here are welcoming a few number of service seekers with increasing cold starts gripping the district.
The number of patients suffering from cold diarrhoea, common cold, typhoid and pneumonia at the local hospital has soared.
Making bonfire in public has become a common scene in various places in the people’s locality. Locals have arranged firewood themselves and burnt it in public to keep them warm in the cold. The locals have been irate after the Nepalgunj Municipality failed to provide them firewood in this winter.
