Kathmandu, 29th January, 2015 : The Czech Republic has shown its interest to invest in hydro power development sector in Nepal.

 

The visiting Czech Minister for Industry and Commerce Jan Mladek called on Minister for Energy Radha Kumari Gyawali at the Ministry today and expressed such interests.

Following the meeting, Energy Minister Gyawali informed RSS that the Czech Republic has shown interest to enhance economic cooperation and investment in the infrastructure, hydropower, food and other areas for mutual interests.

 

Minister Gyawali said that Nepal has been facing a crisis in energy production due to the lack of big investment in spite of having adequate resources and possibilities of power generation from big projects like the Karnali, Chisapani which have the capacity of producing 10,800 megawatt.

 

She further said that she urged the Czech investors to invest in other areas too as the Czech Republic had a sound technical experience in the development of solar and wind energy as well.

 

The Energy Minister further said that the Czech Republic was found interested to co-work in the hydropower, tourism, drinking water and financial areas.

 

Minister Gyawali said that the incumbent government was making its maximum efforts to attract foreign investment and the environment for that was appropriate which she shared with Czech Minister Mladek and his delegation.

 

Nepal is facing huge trade deficit with the Czech Republic and to reduce it, technology and investment should be imported from there, Gyawali added.
