Khotang, 15 Dec 2014: The Khotang Sewa Samaj Kathmandu has provided financial assistance of Rs 3.5 million to blood cancer patient Pramesh Rai, of Buipa-9 24, Khotang by collecting funds from within and outside the country.
Organizing a programme at Baneswor, Kathmandu this evening, the assistance was handed over to cancer patient Rai, said Samaj Secretary Bajindra Bista.
Earlier, Rai was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, India where he was suggested to undergo bone marrow transplantation.
According to the hospital, the transplantation will cost Rs 3.2 million. But his treatment was suspended as his family failed to manage the amount, the Society said. Of the fund, Rs 42,000 was collected from the country while Rs 3.46 million was collected from abroad including the UK, Brunei, Hong Kong and Singapore, Samaj secretary Bista said.
The assistance amount was handed to the Rai family in the presence of society advisor former Chief District Officer Sitaram Pokhrel, Federation of Nepali Journalists’ account committee coordinator Deepak Pandey and journalist Ganesh Rai.
