Kathmandu,2 Feb 2015: The fifth International Art Exhibition kicked off at the premises of Nepal Art Council from Monday.

The four-day event is jointly organised by Nepal Art Council, New Art Circle and SMD Foundation, India.

Nepal, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Central American nation Honduras and European country Turkey are taking part in the exhibition. It has showcased around 100 paintings by 35 artistes.  India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bhutan have already had the experiences of holding such type of event.

Nepal Art Circle, Nepal Academy and SKIB group have represented the country in exhibition showcasing abstract and concrete works by various artistes on the theme of Hindu religion, women, beauty of nature, people’s daily live, universe and possible consequence of climate change including noted artiste Kiran Manandhar (former chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts).

Minister for Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey opened the event amidst a special ceremony. On the occasion, he said such exhibition taking place on a rotation basis regularly would help create an avenue to enrich a creative mosaic to better represent the globalised character of our societies, bringing different tastes of arts from different countries, culture and societies into a one platform.

Council general secretary and New Art Circle President Shankarnath Rimal said such event would help promote Nepali art in the international arena and understand the trend of international art.

The artistes who are here in course of participating in the exhibition will visit the famous religious shrines in the country including the Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Swoyambhunath, according to the organizers.
