Kathmandu, Jan 4: The Good Governance and Monitoring Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has decided to invite Prime Minister Sushil Koirala in the Committee’s next meeting to familiarize him about the future strategy to be  adopted for the structural consolidation of the National Vigilance Centre and for the guarantee of good governance.

A meeting of the Committee this morning presided over by Committee Chair Sherdhan Rai took a decision in this regard after holding discussion with Acting Chief Ramesh Kumar Sharma and other office-bearers of the Vigilance Centre.

Expressing the view that the Centre should get authority as equal to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in corruption control, Chair Rai said, “No remarkable activities of the Centre was seen  for ensuring good governance except creating awareness against corruption and issuing warning. The chief officer of the Centre should be fully authorized by giving rights as equal to the chief secretary.”

Similarly, the meeting also decided to draw attention of concerned political parties and leaders including Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Baburam Bhattarai, Jhalanath Khanal, Pradeep Giri, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, Sashank Koirala and Leela Koirala, who were absent for the fifth time continuously in the meeting without informing the Committee Chair. Altogether 18 such absentee lawmakers have been asked to be present in the Committee’s next meeting.

Stating that the draft of law has been prepared to take the Centre at the position of CIAA and the law is under consideration at the Law Commission, Acting Chief Sharma a total of 4,769 cases were filed at the Centre during its 12 years of establishment.
