April 9, 2015: Â John Kerry, US Secretary of State has warned Iran over its support for Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Mr. Kerry said that US would support any state in the Middle East that felt endangered by Iran, and would not stand by if Iran destabilized the region.
Iran has refused allegation of providing military assistance to the Houthis. However, Iran dismissed two navy vessels to the Gulf of Aden, off the southern coast of Yemen, on Wednesday.
Rear Adm Habibollah Sayyari, navy commander told state media, “The move was made with the aim of safeguarding naval routes for vessels in the region”.
Meantime, assistance has begun to reach Yemen after a sequence of delays, as the humanitarian situation declines among the fights.
Mr. Kerry told it was clear Iran was assisting the Houthis. He stated, “There are obviously supplies that have been coming from Iran. There are a number of flights every single week that have been flying in.”
Mr. Kerry also added, “Iran needs to recognise that the US is not going to stand by while the region is destabilised or while people engage in overt warfare across lines, international boundaries and other countries.”
