Mission Hospital Closed During Conflict Yet To Reopen

Phalebas (Parbat), Dec 8: A mission hospital in the district which was closed 14 years back reasoning security threat during the Maoist conflict has not been reopened yet.

As a result, the people here and from the environs are hit hard. The locals have been worried that no agency has ever taken interest to reopen the hospital which was established in 2050 BS.

It was closed after seven years of the operation, the time Maoist conflict gained pace.

There were two American and four Nepali doctors providing service at the hospital. Directly, as many as 150,000 people from two dozens of VDCs from Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi districts were benefited.

An American organization had provided the monetary support of Rs 10 million for the construction of the hospital occupying 15 ropani of land.

As it is left unused for long, the building and the furniture are ruining, roof leaking, and the medical instruments gathering dust.

Former registrar at the hospital, Ganga Neupane, said, “The US recalled all of its doctors citing the conflict while ultimately led to the closure of the hospital.”

As many as 50 to 100 people used to visit the hospital daily. With the closure, they are now bound to go to Pokhara, Syangja, Butwal, Palpa and Bhairahawa.

Moreover, many years have passed since the end of the Maoist conflict. No reliable health posts have been set up in this area.
