National debate for economic prosperity on cards

Kathmandu, 4 Jan 2014: A national debate for economic prosperity is taking place in the capital from January 6 to 10 under the joint aegis of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Media International.

Making the announcement at a news conference here today, FNCCI Vice-president Dinesh Shrestha said books, bulletins and special souvenir publications on economic development and prosperity and stalls of different newspapers would be kept as well as high government officials, stakeholders and the chiefs of the different political parties would be invited for participation as part of the national debate.

Shrestha said that the economy of the country that lies between two powerful and emerging big economies of the world – India and China- lagged far behind die to the game of power among the political party leaders. He rued that the investment could not be se cured in Nepal due to the political instability.

President of Nepal Trade Association Nayan Bahadur Pandit said the media should give priority to the economy rather than political issues.

President of the Media International Madhav Nirdosh said the national debate is being organised with the objective of prioritizing economic development and prosperity through partnership between the private sector and the government and to explore economic prospects, besides exerting pressure on the political parties not to create hurdles in the economic development and prosperity.
