Nepal Telecom to sponsor senior national cricket teams

Kathmandu, 6 April, 2015 : The Nepal Telecom on Monday signed an agreement to sponsor the national senior men and women’s cricket teams.

At a programme, NTC Managing Director Buddhi Prasad Acharya and Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Acting Chairman Deepak Koirala signed an agreement paper for Rs 8.5 million worth of sponsorship with the contract to be renewed every year.

NTC Managing Director Acharya said the company took the decision of sponsorship for the success of the game of cricket which is becoming increasingly popular among the public. Acharya added the company was committed to providing utmost support as cricket also exuded national identity.

CAN’s acting Chair Koirala said the kind of agreement reached would not only be in the interest of the game of cricket, but also the players.

On the occasion, CAN Chief Executive Officer Bhawana Ghimire termed the agreement a landmark deal for CAN’s economic prosperity.

As per the agreement, 25 per cent of the money would be disbursed as allowance for players of the senior national cricket teams while CAN will be obliged to hold Twenty20 format of cricket game under the title ‘Nepal Telecom Championship Trophy’. CAN will also be barred from taking sponsorship from any other organization, according to the agreement.

The Telecom will provide Rs 7 million annually to CAN for holding tournaments, said Subashchandra Shah, Deputy Managing Director at NTC’s Marketing Department.
