Process and waiting to go simultaneously: NC leader Poudel

Kaski, Jan 30,2015: Nepali Congress vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the incumbent government would simultaneously take ahead the constitution writing process and the talks with the opposition party alliance for forging consensus, while waiting for the nod from the opposition.Addressing a programme organized to commemorate the birth centenary of late NC leader Ganeshman Singh here today, leader Poudel said the process would go further ahead if the opposition parties won’t come to consensus.Finalizing disputed issues through the voting process was an ideal example of democracy in practice, leader Poudel added. He said that they were flexible on the form of governance, the electoral system, judiciary and federalism in previous constituent assembly (CA) as the democratic alliances did not have majority.Similarly, he objected to the statements coming from the diplomatic missions for the consensus. He said if consensus was the most ideal way to decide issues, then, why veto power was used to resolve the disputed issues in the United Nations. Is there consensus based government in the countries of the foreign diplomats who are only reiterating consensus as the only way in Nepal, he wondered.Leader Pouded clarified that they were making maximum efforts for a democratic constitution even to free the country from the entanglement of consensus. He urged the Madhesi and indigenous nationalities to be alert that their rights would not be protected in any kind of authoritarianism.Directly elected presidential system cannot address the problem of marginal and subaltern people, therefore, there was no meaning for reiterating the same, he added.
