Kathmandu,10 Feb 2015: The government has slashed the rate of public transport fare effective from Wednesday in wake of recent and repeated reduction in the prices of petroleum products.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management reduced the price of transport fare by 2.03 per cent after holding consultations with the stakeholders concerned.

Ministry’s Secretary Tulasi Prasad Sitaula said the decision was taken to reduce the taxi fare by 1.6 per cent and truck by 5 per cent. Likewise, travel charges in public transport in hilly districts have been cut by 4.37 per cent while the fare in trucks used in supplying commodities was reduced by 5.28 per cent.

The minimum transport fare in the Kathmandu Valley has been fixed at Rs 13 while the maximum stands at Rs 25 after slashing of one rupee in the existing prices determined before mid January.
