Kathmandu, 14 Nov 2014: The Legislature-Parliamentary Women, Children, Senior Citizen and Social Welfare Committee, and Health and Population sub-Committee on Friday made an inspection tour of the state-owned Bir Hospital. During the visit, members of the Committee team interacted with the patients and doctors, and inspected the condition of the Hospital’s premises, its x-ray, medical science lab, Out Patient Department (OPD) and the Emergency Ward.

The team also inquired about the fees charged over patients, pharmacy, quality of the food given to the sick, and condition of sanitation.

The lawmakers after the inspection called for special attention to sanitation in the Hospital.

Hospital’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ganesh Gurung complained that the Health Ministry had not given due attention to the plight of the Hospital and that reform works had stalled owing to lack of budget.

The Bir Hospital established with an aim to provide health service to poor and needy is still operating under the structure and human resources system as old as 35 years.
