Kathmandu,19 Dec 2014: Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi on Friday underscored the need for a joint effort between Nepal and India to push for creation of a world parliamentary forum for securing the children’s rights.
Addressing a felicitation programme held by the Parliamentary Women, Children, Senior Citizen and Social Welfare Committee at the Constituent Assembly, Satyarthi said that every government, parliament and the constitution must focus on children’s right and prosperity.
He apprised of the talks he had held with young lawmakers in India for creation of the forum and said they were positive. Satyarthi said he was tabling the proposal before the Nepali lawmakers as he had been urged to do so.
“The lawmakers of the two countries should work together for such a forum, let us lead the world on children’s rights via South Asia,” he said.
Satyarthi said the prize he had won was a prize won for all the children and stressed for efforts to remove the poverty within every man. He added that the children must be strengthened for such a task.
The Nobel Prize laureate underlined that a bright future for the children could be accomplished if a huge portion of the amount spent on arms in the world could be channeled to education and health sector. He added that the world could be viewed from children’s eyes.
He appealed to the lawmakers to start a process of treatment rather than making big on speeches and precepts.
Satyarthi also expressed hope that the new constitution would embody suitable provisions to protect the rights of children.

Banquet in honour of Satyarthi
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday hosted a banquet in honour of Noble Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi.
The banquet was attended by NC central members and representatives of the diplomatic community.
Satyarthi arrived in the capital city on Friday morning along with his family members for a three-day visit to Nepal.
