Seventy-two per cent works of Upper Tamakoshi over

Charikot, 23rd January, 2015 :  Around 72 per cent of the construction works of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project (456 MW), the project of national pride, have been completed so far.

According to a progress report released on Thursday, the construction of the project is underway in different four lots, said Dr Ganesh Neupane, Spokesperson and Chief of the Environment Department of the Project.

Around 80 per cent of the civil construction works under the Lot 1 is completed. Over 62 per cent dam construction and 82 per cent of tunnel construction have been completed according to the Chief Contractor Company of the Project, Sino Hydro, said Dr Neupane.

The Company has completed construction of 13.5 kilometres of the 16-kilometre-long tunnel. Similarly, the Company has made a breakthrough in the construction of the vertical shaft of the project few days ago. The construction of the vertical shaft failed six times before this.

Similarly, construction of five out of the six turbine caverns was completed. It is the most challenging task for the civil work, said Spokesperson Neupane.

Likewise, around 3,300 metres of the 3,500 metres penstock shaft has been completed.

Under the Lot 2, the Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited, an Indian company, has been constructing the gate hub related works of the project in the dam site and that the piping works have been reached the final phase, he added.

Moreover, the Andritz Hydro, an Australian Contractor Company, has transported the turbine parts to the project site and is carrying out the developing under the Lot 3.

The Indian Company KEC International has already started construction of power transmission line of 220/132 under the Lot 4, said Spokesperson Neupane.

The estimated cost for the construction of the project that is to be concluded by mid-April 2016 is Rs 35.29 billion.
