Janakpurdham, 27 Dec 2014: Scholars and professors have expressed concern over the growing trend of students enrolling themselves in universities with the sole motive of acquiring academic certificate rather than holistic knowledge.
The participants of a workshop titled ‘Hindi Literature Teaching Methodology at University Level’ organised by the Tribhuvan University Central Department of Hindi here on Friday, expressed that even the authenticity of the certificates was under question as the students pitiably lacked depth of knowledge on the subject.
The participants pointed out that although the number of students taking certificates on specialized subjects was large, they utterly lacked in writing and speaking skills.
Dean at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof Dr Chintamani Pokhrel said semester system has been adopted with the objective of putting to an end the increasing anomalies seen in the higher education. He believed that the semester system would help correct the anomalies and bring about regularity of teaching and learning.
Chief of the TU Central Department of Hindi Dr Sweta Dipti said Hindi language was neglected due to the lack of a positive view of the State towards this language.
Lecturer Manchala Jha and part-time teacher Binod Kumar Bishwakarma, presenting separate working papers on the occasion, underlined the need of promoting Hindi language and introducing it from the school level itself.
A host of speakers including retired professors Asha Sinha and Upendra Kamal stressed establishing the Hindi language as it is a rich language and a lingua-franca in the Tarai region.
