More support coming for journalist Kshetri's treatment

Kathmandu, 3rd February, 2015 : More support has been coming for the treatment of journalist and the Nepal Press Union Secretary, Surya Kumar Kshetri.

 

Kshetri, who is undergoing treatment for brain tumour at a hospital based in New Delhi, India, is provided with Rs 176,000 from various organizations and personalities in and outside the country.

Nepali Liaison Committee, South Korea, contributed Rs 100,000, the Higher Secondary Schools’ Association Nepal (HISSAN) Rs 25,000, the Reporters Club Nepal Rs 20,000, the Nepalbani Network Rs 16,000 and the Kathmandu Chapter of the Union Rs 15,000 through the Minister for Information and Communications Dr Minendra Rijal.

 

During the programme organized for handing over the support to Kshetri, Minister Dr Rijal said the government has provided Rs 500,000 for Kshetri’s treatment and wished for his speedy recovery.

 

At the programme, Minister Dr Rijal said the government has already forwarded the process for providing accident insurance for the journalist. He appreciated the committee for showing their love to a fellow Nepali citizen even if they remain in the foreign lands and the organizations concerned for their support to journalist Kshetri. It has been the exemplary work to others, he added.

 

Senior journalist Harihar Birahi, Chairman of the Union Badri Sigdel, chairman of the Democratic Print Media National Society Damodar Prasad Dawadi, among others, said the journalists have been facing such economic hardships even for their treatment due to non-availability of allowances and facilities, suggesting the government to think about this matter.

 

The Union has collected around Rs 400,000 from various organizations and chapters of the Union so far, said general secretary of the Union Ajaybabu Siwakoti.

 

The Liaison Committee member Laxman Bhantawa handed over the support through Minister Dr Rijal which was raised in Korea under the initiatives of Committee chairman Nawaraj Shibakoti.
