Kathmandu, Nov 21: Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa held a meeting today with the objective of forging consensus on the contentious issues seen regarding constitution writing.

During the meeting held at Dahal’s residence at Lazimpat, they discussed on how to move ahead in coming days as the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) presented their common proposal at the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee with an objective of moving ahead on the basis of majority.

The meeting held between Dahal and Thapa has been taken as meaningful. The UCPN (Maoist) is in favour of the presidential system along with the executive rights and federal democratic republicanism while RPP-Nepal is in favour of constitutional monarchy.

The meeting was focused on the issue of settling the disputed issues of constitution writing at the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC), said Dahal’s aide Shiva Khakurel.

Stating that the common proposal of the ruling parties was focused for not making the new constitution, Chairman Thapa stressed that opposition parties should move ahead by making a common concept.

Both the leaders have agreed on evolving a common concept on the issues of disputed issues and to call a meeting of the CPDCC at a time when the CPDCC chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai has expedited informal meetings, it is learnt.

Similarly, they also agreed that the proposal presented by the ruling parties at CPDCC could be sent to the Constituent Assembly (CA) as a Schedule.
