Pokhara, 6TH February, 2015 : Leader of the UCPN (Maoist) and former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that they were in favour of naming provinces based on ethnicity in order to preserve the identity of the said ethnic groups.
Addressing an interaction organised by the UCPN (Maoist), Kaski, here today, Bhattarai expressed the view that they were proposing to name the Gandaki region as Tamuwan State as it has majority of Tamus.
Stating that although 80 per cent consensus was forged on the contents of the new constitution, political parties failed to agree on the remaining issues, he argued that however there was no meaning of an 80 per cent consensus without forging consensus on the major contentious issues including federalism, form of governance, judiciary and electoral system.
Bhattarai also warned that people wanting change would not remain silent if the NC and CPN (UML) tried to bring the old constitution by force.
He blamed the NC and CPN (UML) of compelling the 30-party alliance to launch the agitation by deciding to go ahead with the majority process of drafting the new constitution.
