Rainfall occurred in the Kathmandu Valley and other parts of the country today with the arrival of the moisture-laden clouds that originated from the Mediterranean Sea. The cloud descended after travelling all the way in the upper atmosphere, meteorologist Barun Poudel said. The winds entered Nepal first from the western part, including Dadeldhura on Wednesday, making its way to the central parts including the Kathmandu Valley today morning. The winds will reach the eastern parts on Friday.

The precipitation in the Kathmandu Valley that started since the morning will stop for a brief period in the evening and again likely continue in the night, the Division stated. The weather is expected to improve by Friday and it will likely take a few days more to improve completely.

The influence of the Westerly wind has been seen in most parts of the country except Biratnagar and Jhapa. The Division considers the present precipitation as normal in winter months of December, January and February. It said the average rainfall in February is approximately 18 millimetres but today’s was only 12 millimetres.

Meanwhile, a report from Darchula states that high altitude places of the district received heavy snowfall and other places rainfall affecting the life in the district.
