NHRC warns of action if recommendation neglected

Lalitpur, 6 April, 2015 : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday warned of action against the concerned sides not implementing the recommendations sent for punitive measures in connection to a raft of incidents of human rights violation.

At a day-long joint seminar on Journalists and Human Rights Protection held by NHRC and the Human Rights Journalist Association here, NHRC member Govinda Sharma Poudel warned that no one would be spared from legal action if they do not comply with the recommendation sent by the commission. He called for obligatory support of media in the mission.

On the occasion, Association’s Chairman Chhatra Shanker said the commission should not rest until the Nepali people experienced a sense of insurance of human rights while stressing for accommodation of human rights related contents in the media in par with political contents.

Kantipur Daily Associate Editor Ghanshyam Khadka said the majority of media outlets in the country were centered on incident-based reporting rather than investigative reporting, and urged the journalists to focus more on investigative journalism in future.
