Nisha Bhote First Bhote Women to Summit Mt Everest

Kathmandu, March 31, 2019: Nisha Bhote a 22-year-old woman from remote Sankhuwasabha district has left for Khumbu to attempt to climb the world’s highest peak in the spring season.

Being a woman of Hatiya Rural Municipality in Sankhuwasabha she would be the first woman from the Bhote community to stand atop the roof of the world should she scale the 8,848-metre peak in the next two months.

According to Jamling Bhote, Managing Director at Ever Quest Expeditions, his daughter reached Namche Bazaar today to begin acclimatization rotation in the high altitude region.

Talking to THT, Nisha, a bachelor level student at Nepal College of Travel and Tourism, said that she wanted to achieve her childhood dream of climbing to Mt Everest summit.

Rameshwar Niraula, an official at the Department of Tourism, confirmed that she obtained a climbing permit for one-member ‘First Bhote Female Everest Expedition’ on Thursday.

“Being a daughter of a mountaineer, I always think about the mountains,” she said, adding that she wanted to explore a message to the world that young women are equally capable of doing adventure activities as men.

According to her, she completed climbing training in the high altitude areas as well as participated in adventure sports activities. “I want to inspire all Nepali girls to dream big,” she reacted.

Besides, she also wanted to draw attention to gender equality and women empowerment as well as the effects of climate change in the Himalayan region, she added.“She is skilled, courageous and strong as male climbers like me,” Nisha’s father Jamling added.
