Surkhet, Sept 24: Minister for Finance Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has said that the country’s economic development should be made the prime agenda following the promulgation of a new constitution.
Minister Dr Mahat, who has arrived Surkhet to observe development works, said this at a press conference organized by Surkhet Chapter of Nepal Press Union on Thursday.
On the occasion, he stressed the need to emphatically take ahead the agenda of economic development for true prosperity of the country. “Now is the time to focus on economic advancement to steer the country towards prosperity”, he added.
The Finance Minister called on political parties and private sector to outline the agenda of economic development.
Stating that the country’s economic development has witnessed stagnation due to Madhes unrest, he shared that previous month saw the revenue loss of Rs 6 billion.
The Madhes unrest should be put to an end at the earliest, he said, adding that the foremost need now is to strengthen revenue base by increasing economic activities.
Responding journalist’s query, he said the government would not remain tight-lipped if the Madhes-based parties resorted to halt revenue collection and block custom checkpoints.
He asserted that there would be no budget deficit to connect Humla and Dolpa to the road network at the earliest.
On another note, the trade embargo by India is baseless.
