Baitadi, Sept 25: The Promotion of Agriculture, Health and Alternative Livelihood (PAHAL) programme has been in place in 12 VDCs of Baitadi district.
Mercy Corps has implemented the programme with the financial assistance of USAID – the US development agency. It was shared at the district-level inception workshop that the programme will work in the areas of agriculture sector, market promotion, nutrition and sanitation, disaster and risk management, natural resource management, alternative livelihood opportunities and financial services, among others.
The five-year project has the objectives of improving the food security status in vulnerable communities, increasing income level of the households at risk and advancing the status of health and nutrition.
The programme will be in place in Amchora, Pancheswor, Mahakali, Shivanath, Sharmali, Udayadev, Bishalpur, Rim, Talladahi, Malladehi, Bhatana and Nyadeu VDCs of the district.
Total expenditure projected for five-year PAHAL programme is around Rs 61.5 million.
Meanwhile, all the political parties based in the district have pledged to lend support to make the PAHAL programme a success.
