Panel discussion on Safe Spaces For Youth by YTS-lamjung

Lamjung, August 15, 2018: Youth Thinkers’ Society-Lamjung organized “Panel discussion on Safe Spaces For Youth” on International Youth Day 2018 at Pipalbot Resort, Siudibar, Lamjung to discuss on youth entrepreneurship, education, leadership, self-reliance and local governance. The program was formally inaugurated by Chief guest Mr.Guman Singh Aryal (Mayor, Besisahar Municipality). The panelist of the program included Mayor himself as well as Mr. Bibash Budhathoki (Chairperson, District Youth committee, Lamjung), Mr. Bishnu Chiluwal (Program Coordinator,COPPADES), Mr. Nikson Khwoju Shrestha (Team leader, VSO) and Narayan Regmi (Department Head, District Youth Committee).

The program proved to be a common platform to bring more than 40 youths from 14 different youth clubs of Lamjung together with local government, District Youth Committee and NGOs of the place in a forum to clear the doubts regarding government, know their plans for future as well as their expectations from youths. The enthusiasm, frustration and hopes of young minds were clearly seen during the Q&A session with the panelist. Youths were also made engaged in a group discussion forming 7 different groups of 6 people where they were asked to discuss on the strength they have as a residence of Lamjung, problems they have been facing and goals they would like to achieve. They also enlisted the solutions of problems that they had themselves put forward previously. This made the participants realize the fact that we must move forward and try to solve our problems in the first place and create space ourselves rather than hoping everything to happen from government.

YTS-Lamjung has been working for the empowerment of young minds, not only give a voice, but make sure that the voice of our country’s spring tide are heard in the right place to implement proper policy changes. YTS-Lamjung has been working in the field of Youth empowerment, environment and agriculture. Participants also had the informal talks with panelists during snacks. In this way,4 hour long program proved to be a time worth spending to know about plans of local government, status and problems of youths along with their solutions. The event was supported by VSO ICS, Sarbodaya Sewasram, COPPADES and District Youth Committee.
