Ilam, Aug. 6: Transport service in four districts of the Mechi Zone including the Ilam district is halted today due to the dispute between the transport entrepreneurs.

Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs’ Federation has called the transport strike in protest against the announcement by the Ujyalo Transport Entrepreneurs’ Association that it would operate long-haul bus services. As a result, transport service in Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung districts has been disrupted.

Vehicles plying on long and short routes from here to Jhapa, Panchthar and Taplejung did not operate today, leaving the passengers stranded at the Bus Park.

The Federation’s Mechi Zone coordinator Laxmi Prasad Sitaula said they were compelled to call the transport strike as some non-professionals were collecting money in the name of Ujyalo Sangh.

Meanwhile in Jhapa, the transport strike at the call of the Mechi Transport Entrepreneurs National Federation Zonal Committee has led to a tense situation in Kakarbhitta today.

Some persons were injured when police had to intervene to calm down the situation. The police charged baton to bring the situation under control in which some people have been injured while some others have been arrested, the Ilaka Police Office, Kakarbhitta stated.
