PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Nepal Chapter successfully concluded its 39th Annual General Meeting with the theme “Leaders 4 Tomorrow” in 20th March 2015 at Hotel Annapurna. The new Executive Committee was unanimously appointed under the Chairmanship of Mr. Suman Pandey, Explore Himalaya Travel & Adventure. Accordingly the 1st VP is Ms. Nandini Lahe Thapa, Nepal Tourism Board and 2nd VP is Mr. Saroj Kumar Kasaju, Nepal Airlines Corporation. Members of the Executive Committee are Mr. Hariman Lama, Incentives Tours & Travels Pvt. Ltd as the Hon. Secretary, Ms. Pamfa Dhamala, Langtang RI Trekking & Expedition Pvt. Ltd as Hon.

Also Treasurer and the other Executive Members: Mr. Bibhuti Chand Thakur of Himalayan Holidays Travels & Tours Pvt Ltd, Mr. Shiva Dhakal of Royal Mountain Travel – Nepal Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Sunil Sakya of KGH Group Of Hotels, Mr. Marcus Cotton of Tiger Mountain Nepal and Mr. Sanjay Mathema of SDU Travels Pvt. Ltd and Immediate Past President, Mr. Pawan Tuladhar of Dharma Adventures etc were present. In the positions of Ex-officio Members, Mr. Tulsi Prasad Gautam, DG of Department of Tourism & Mr. Ram Hari Sharma, Corporate Director of NAC have been appointed.

As per the amended constitution of PATA there is the provision of Proxy Members in the Executive Committee as well. The closed door session was followed by the Formal Function where Hon’ble Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, Minister of Finance was the Chief Guest and Hon’ble Mr. Uday Shumsher J B Rana, CA Member graced the event as the Guest of Honor representing the Next Generation campaign of PATA. Mr. Subhash Goyal, Chairman of Stic Travel Group, India and also the President of The Indian Association of Tour Operators was present as the Key Note speaker for the evening.

In continuation to the PATA Personality of the Year Award, this year it was awarded to Mr. Manohar SJB Rana, CEO of Yeti Travels Pvt Ltd for his honest, integral and consistent service to the Nepalese Tourism Industry.

The distinguished speakers had talked about the opportunities and the challenges of Nepal in tourism sectors. Their main focus was on Promoting Tourism sector which has multiplier effect on National economy. They also highlighted pressure due to Global market Competition which need the team collaboration. Subash Goyal, Chairman of Stic Travel Group, India beautifully said “Nepalese Speaks from my Heart”. He talked about the effect of Indian market on Nepal and also recommended Nepalese people to focus on Lumbini, Religious fair, Adventures etc. He told the fact about the reason for domination of global economy is 3T (Technology, Telecommunication and tourism). He added, “Those who don’t use the social media like face book, twitter etc for marketing they cannot survive”

Another panelist Udaya Samsher Rana proudly said that God has inclined with the Natural beauty to Nepal so tourism is Nepal’s future. Thus, it is most essential to make the utmost utilization of these resources to get economically sound. He told his 3 observation: Need of 2nd International Airport, Fast Track highway and change in procurement.
Finance Minister also focused on strength of tourism potential of Nepal. He also assured that there would be no problem of Money for the right project. He also expressed his lack of proper function of government due to political instability. But with the Strategic Partner, Management Technic, skills and ability and with the best Manpower Nepal can achieve high degree of economic growth.

Conclusion remarks was done by Mr. Bhandari giving a vote of thanks to all the Executive committee members, distinguished guest, media, every members of PATA and all the audience.
