Kaski, Jan 18: A peace rally has been organised in Pokhara this morning calling to end banda or general shutdown forever.

The rally was organised at the initiative of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry and participated in by representatives of different organisations associated with tourism, civil society, among others. The rally passed through different parts of the city including Mahendrapool, Prithvi Chowk and New Road.

Participants in the rally carried placards reading, “Let’s end shutdown forever”, “Let’s search alternative to shutdown”, “Let’s promulgate the new constitution on time”, among others. Thousands of people took part in the rally.

The rally converged into a corner meeting upon reaching Manabadhikar Chowk at Chipledhunga.

Addressing the corner meeting, President of PICC, Bindu Kumar Thapa, urged the political leaders to withdraw the strike programme and to work keeping the welfare of the country in centre.

He also asked the bodies concerned to search an alternative to shutdown and strikes and urged the different political parties and other groups to withdraw shutdown and strike programme.

Thapa also warned of launching stern programme against the shutdown if their demands were not addressed.

They have also planned to submit memorandum to Kaski-based political parties demanding to end shutdown forever.

On the occasion, Pokhara Chairman of Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN); Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, President of Lekhnath Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Baburam Giri, Kaski President of Federation of Nepali Journalists; Ram Krishna Gyawali, among others called political parties to end shutdown as it has hit hard on the general people as well as on tourism entrepreneurs.
