Kathmandu, 16th January, 2015Â : The meeting of the Constituent Assembly continued the discussion on the contents of the constitution on Friday too.
Chairman of the Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, presented the report of the CPDCC at the CA
meeting and requested the CA members to put forth views on it.
Participating in the discussion, most of the CA members said if the constitution was not issued on the slated date of January 22, the people would not excuse the parties. It was time all political parties stood together and brought the constitution on time, they stressed.
Some said the CA could immediately initiate process for voting while some insisted on forging consensus among all political parties on the disputed issues of the constitution.
The top leaders of the big parties were characterized for not taking bold and practical decision on the constitution writing.
Sanghiya Samajbadi Party’s Ashok Kumar Rai said the Prime Minister must take leadership to bring all parties to a consensus. He further said the nine-point proposal of the ruling NC and UML was faulty, as it failed to address people’s aspiration.
Similarly, Prem Suwal of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party said the political parties that promised to deliver constitution in a year should be disqualified, as they failed to keep up the responsibility.
Speaking at the discussion were Mahendra Yadav of Tarai-Madhes Sadbhavana Party, Chitra Bahadur KC of the Rastriya Janamorcha, Jay Dev Joshi of CPN (United), Shiv Lal Thapa of Rastriya Janamukti Party, Gopal Dahit of Tharuhat Tarai Party, Dimple Kumari Jha of Sanghiya Sadbhavana Party, Shyam Shrestha of UCPN (Maoist), Dr Subodh Kumar Pokhrel of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal and others.
The CA would meet next at 11:30am on Saturday.
