PM Koirala stresses on transformative potentials of SAARC to gain global prominence

Kathmandu,23 Nov 2014: Prime Minister of the SAARC host country, Sushil Koirala, will inaugurate the 18th SAARC Summit on November 26.

Prime Minister Koirala will inaugurate the summit at 9:30 am after incumbent Chairman of SAARC, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, President of Maldives, declares the 18th SAARC summit open, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Gayoom will propose Prime Minister Koirala for the chairmanship of SAARC after the summit recommend’s the agenda for discussion. The proposal will then be approved by all heads of state or government of SAARC member countries.

After assuming the chairmanship of SAARC, Prime Minister Koirala will make his inaugural address.

Prime Minister Koirala will then invite Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaj Sharif, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa , President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed, Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the summit, adds the Ministry.

Outgoing Chairman of SAARC, President of Maldives Gayoom will also address the summit.

PM Koirala will also invite SAARC Secretary General Arjun Bahadur Thapa and representatives of SAARC observer countries for their inaugural address.Representatives of SAARC Observer countries—Australia, China, Iran, Japan, Korea, Mauritius, United States of America and European Union will be addressing the inaugural session of the Summit.
