Police about to launch an anti-rape campaign

Kathmandu, April 5, 2018: A campaign against rape is about to begin by the Metropolitan Police as the incident of rape is increasing daily in Kathmandu.

According to information, there are 89 incidents of rape at the end of March of the ongoing fiscal year. Metropolitan Police also informed that there were 112 such incidents in the last fiscal year, while 99 in 2072/2073, and 92 in 2071/072 BS.

In the case, even the police were not serious enough on the matter of investigating the incidents, although the crime against women and girls escalating, said Mohan Thapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Bishworaj Pokhrel, Range Chief, Senior Superintendent of Police state that only the effort from police will not enough but also needed an active participation of women, girls and the general public to reduce rape incidents.

Some reason behind the increase of sexual hit were misused by the internet and social networking sites, unemployment, yearning for a luxurious life, a weak decision of law and deviation from culture and additionally, drug abuse was also on a rise, police proclaimed.

SSP Pokhrel, an anti-rape campaign could be launched in each village and school to build an emergency plan for the study and investigation of the rape.
