Kathmandu, Aug. 28: Stakeholders have emphasized on the need of act and regulations in order to enforce the national policy on public libraries that are the local source of information.
Speaking at a programme organized by Nepal Library Association to mark the 7th Library Day here Wednesday, stakeholders said that public library service should be extended to every group and community of the society.
On the occasion, former Minister Ganesh Shah said it is only a public library that ensures continuous study throughout the life and helps every citizen to develop independent decision making ability.
Director of the Library at the US Embassy Prakash Thapa said libraries are more important for a developing society.
Association Chair Ashok Thapa said expansion and development of libraries was essential in order to develop practical knowledge in the society and transform a literate to an educated person.
Library Day is observed every year on Bhadra 15 in the lunar calendar.
