Policy Of Hitting The Streets While Still Harping On Consensus Itself Is Wrong: UML Leader

Surunga (Jhapa),8 Feb 2015: CPN (UML) standing committee member Shanker Pokharel has said the Unified CPN (Maoist)’s policy of hitting the streets against the two-third majority while still harping on consensus is wrong.

Leader Pokharel expressed this view while inaugurating the 100-day Awareness Campaign for Peace and Constitution launched by the party from Jhapa today.

“The UCPN (Maoist) seemed much eager for going to the voting process in the Constituent Assembly -1 when it had a simple majority, but for it to take to the streets while still repeating call for consensus is regrettable in itself,” he said.

He said the UCPN (Maoist) had started raising strong slogans for ethnicity-based provinces which it is doing now only after it joined the peace process. Pokharel also suggested the UCPN (Maoist) which is leading the opposition alliance to remember the names of the people’s government which it had set up during the People’s War.

UML Jhapa District president Chintan Pathak spoke on the objective of the campaign, saying it was for explaining to the people the role played by the party in constitution writing, exposing the sides that were obstructing this process and deepening the party’s relations with the public.
