Prajesh Khanal: A young environmentalist who made his school the first Green School in Jhapa district

17-years-old Prajesh Khanal is currently studying in Himalaya Higher Secondary School in class 12.

He has been committed and contributed to preserving environment, reflecting the effect of climate change, promoting green, clean and peace activities.

He is the president of Eco-Friendly Child Club of the school.

The club has the concept of clean, green, peace and safe work place promoted by Nepal commission for UNESCO. Because of the activity of the club, the school has been considered as the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Resource Center in the district.

He is also actively engaged in UNESCO’s movement on Education for Sustainable Development Activities.

In his locality, Prajesh is seen as a leader who is focused to aware, sensitize the students and local community people for enhancing Sustainable Development Activities.

Khanal initiated the successful ‘I consume my oxygen’ campaign as a popular mobilizer among the school children. This has converted the school premises into the first ‘Green School’ in the district, and has been successful to draw the attention of local community, stakeholders as well as the high-ranking government authority.

The campaign, along with various other campaigns and initiatives, have encouraged community people to plant trees. “My efforts have activated students towards eco-conservation. My tenure in different positions of Eco~Friendly Himalaya Club has attracted people towards conservation of nature and different schools in the district have been committed to Clean, Green, Peace & Safe movement looking to one in my school. Seeing this, some local youth clubs have been established making eco-conservation as their main motive,” shares Prajesh with pride.

He is also the president of Municipal Child Forum, Damak, and has been contributing for Child-Friendly Local Governance (CFLG).

Prajesh is a young-gun with the big mission of making a green nation. He stands out with his works and has been inspiring many teenagers.

Prajesh Khanal was selected among the 20 brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators and game changers below the age of 20 in Nepal, for the year 2017. This annual list is the ultimate honor roll of young game changers reshaping Nepal for the better. The platform seeks to encourage the youths to share their initiation, creativity, and enthusiasm which will then motivate them and more of the other youths in the nation to develop an entrepreneurial thinking.
