PREPARATION TO OPEN BLOCKED PORTION OF SUNKOSHI

Kathmandu, Aug. 2: The government has mobilized its entire force to open up the portion of Sunkoshi River blocked due to occurrence of landslide in Jure of Mankha VDC, Sindhupalchowk and take people to safer places.

 

Security personnel have been mobilized to give outlet to the blocked Sunkoshi River.

 

A serious discussion to this effect is taking place at a meeting of Central Natural Disaster Rescue Committee being held at Home Ministry in Singha Durbar.

 

With the blockage of the River due to landslide, a pool of water with the length of 3-km, breadth of 300-feet and depth of 90-meter was created that could cause huge loss in the human settlement.

 

The meeting is attended by Nepal government chief secretary Leelamani Poudyal, Home Secretary Surya Silwal, Ministry Spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal and representatives of security agencies.

 

The government has made necessary preparation to detonate bomb anytime to open the blocked portion.

 

Meanwhile, Spokesperson Dhakal, issuing a highly urgent notice on Saturday, urged the local people residing in the vicinity of Sunkoshi River to seek safer places considering possible threats caused by the flow of the River.

 

The government has asked the local administration to make necessary arrangement to take the vulnerable section of locals near the river side to safer places and provide information to the public for safety measures through local media, stated the notice.
