Kathmandu,17 Jan 2015: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav held a meeting with senior leaders of the major political parties on Saturday, while expressing concern over the delay in the constitution making process.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and senior leaders of the NC and CPN-UML at the Rastrapati Bhawan Sheetal Niwas, President Yadav queried whether that the parties had backtracked from their commitment to deliver the new constitution on January 22.

Talking to reporters following the meeting, senior leader of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal said the President urged the leaders to put an end to the situation of despair among the people by promulgating the new constitution through a process that is acceptable to all sides.Leader Khanal however said that they were making efforts for a consensus but the new constitution should be promulgated through the procedure if consensus was not achieved.

Senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said he suggested adopting the interim constitution as a regular constitution, as possibility of a consensus was negligible. Congress Vice-chair Ram Chandra Poudel said they shared that the new constitution will be promulgated based on a consensus if possible and if not through the due process.

Following the meeting with the NC and UML leaders, the President is holding a similar meeting with senior leaders from the UCPN (Maoist) party and Madhesh-centric parties.
