Kathmandu, 1 April, 2015 : Minister for Urban Development, Dr Narayan Khadka, who was part of the President’s entourage to China, said that the visit has taken the Nepal-China friendly relations to a new height.

Sharing about President Yadav’s China visit at Tribhuvan International Airport earlier this afternoon, Minister Khadka said the visit will carry special importance as there was exchange of high-level visits from both countries in course of celebrating diamond jubilee of Nepal-China relations this year.

President Yadav had addressed the ‘Boao Forum for Asia: Annual Conference 2015’ held at Boao city in Hainan Province, China, from March 26 to 29.

In his address, President Yadav had said that the conference was an important forum to hold discussion on common issues facing the Asia Pacific countries as well as other countries, and to exchange experiences and views.

He also familiarized the delegates about the contemporary political situation of Nepal.

Presidents of China, Armenia, Austria, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Uganda and Zimbabwe, Governor General of Australia and Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Qatar and Sweden had also addressed the conference.

During the visit, President Dr Yadav held bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at State Guest House based in Boao where they talked on matters relating to mutual interest and concern as well as of regional and international concern. President Dr Yadav extended his Chinese counterpart Xi an invitation for Nepal visit in near future. In response, Chinese President Xi assured to visit Nepal in the appropriate time.

On the occasion, Chinese President Xi wished for lasting peace and political stability in Nepal and added that China would like to see Nepal moving towards economic prosperity, said Minister Khadka.

During his China visit, President Yadav held separate meetings with Dr Heinz Fischer, President of Austria and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.

Likewise, China assured to expand support in the field of infrastructure, hydropower, modernization of agriculture and science and technology and announced to provide 900 million Yuan for it.

During the visit, President Yadav also observed the high-elevation railway Lhasa-Shigatse railway, from mainland China to Shigatse in Tibet autonomous region. On the occasion, it was shared that the Chinese government was planning to expand this railway up to Kerung in Solukhumbu district in Nepal as of 2020.

Minister Khadka shared that the President was hopeful that expansion of the railway up to Nepali border would further bolster trade, tourism and mobility of the people at the local level.

Minister Khadka believed that it was a matter of pride for Nepal to be invited to such an important economic forum as Boao after a hiatus of 10 years.

This is President Yadav’s maiden official trip to China since Nepal became a Republic while the visit marks the first bilateral meeting between the two Head of States.

As this year observes the diamond jubilee of Nepal-China diplomatic ties, the relation between two countries is believed to assume greater significance post this visit of President Yadav to China.
