Achham, 6th February, 2015 : Residents of the Pulletola VDC in Achham district are forced to live in darkness for the past three years after the powerhouse of the local micro-hydropower project became dysfunctional. The project generates power from the local Murayali rivulet.

Locals complain that the concerned authorities have not taken any initiative so far to carry out the repair and maintenance of the powerhouse constructed in 2064 BS by the Rural Energy Development Centre, Sapros Nepal, the VDC and voluntary labour of locals.
The powerhouse of the 17-KW project was constructed at the cost of around Rs 4 million. But it remains closed for the past three years.
The Project Management Committee Chair Ekendra Rawal said that they failed to carry out repair and maintenance of the powerhouse for lack of sufficient budget. Though the VDC had this year allocated Rs 100,000 to help resume the power supply, it was not sufficient, Rawal said.
