SAARC plans to announce Media day, Secretary General Thapa

Kathmandu, Nov 5: Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Arjun Bahadur Thapa said the SAARC has planned to announce the Media Day with the holding of a regional media conference.

The 17th Addu Summit held in Maldives agreed to observe the SAARC Media Day, but it has not been declared yet.

During his interaction with RSS General Manager Shreeram Singh Basnet and reporter Bishnu Nepal about preparations for the upcoming regional event, Secretary General Thapa said SAARC Media Day will be announced by organising a regional event.  He shared that all works assigned to the SAARC Secretariat in view of the forthcoming Summit have reached final phase.

We have geared up for extending warm welcome to special guests from the SAARC states coming to the Summit, he said.

Drafting of the SAARC declaration, the important agenda of the Summit, has been already concluded and copies of the draft have been forwarded to the member states.  The Secretariat has no role in logistic and security management, he said, adding, the Nepal Government, as the host country, will do that.

According to SAARC Secretary General, poverty alleviation from the region is the matter of common concern of the member countries and the agenda for the 18th Summit have significant and a broader importance. Nepal and Nepalis are very excited about the event as it got the opportunity of holding it after the 11th Summit, he said.
