SAFF Championship 2015 which will be officially called as SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015 is all set to take place from 23rd December to 3rd January. All the matches of the tournament will be held at Trivandrum, India.
Nepal are among the seven Nations who are participating in the tournament.As Pakistan National football has withdrawn from the tournament in the penultimate period ,now Nepal will play against Bangladesh and Srilanka in their Group Matches. Nepal are placed in Group A along with Bangladesh and Srilanka.
History in SAFF Championship
Nepal National football team have been participating on the tournament Since it’s establishment. Nepal are yet to win the trophy of SAFF Championship. The best result Nepal could produce till the date was finishing third spot during the first SAFF championship in year 1993 which was held in Pakistan. Beside that ,In year 1995,2011 and 2013 ,Nepal made their road upto the semifinal.
Current Situation
The development of Nepali football has a negative Gradient. Currently ,Nepal has the lowest fifa ranking of the history as they are ranked 197 in current FIFA ranking. Beside that ,Five Nepal International were banned by AFC for the scandal of match fixing including their skipper Sagar Thapa and regular Defenders Sandip Rai. Beside that, the formal president of ANFA,Mr Ganesh Thapa was also banned for 10 years for any activity related to football for the charge of Corruption.
However, With the Introduction  Patrick Aussems as the new head coach of Nepal and the opportunities for the Youth players Like Bimal Gharti Magar,Anjan Bista has left a positive hope for the team. In fact, Nepal u-19 team won the first ever SAFF u-19 Championship that was held in Nepal which can be the plus point for the team as well.
Players to watch-Rohit Chand
Rohit Chand is the only player for Nepal who has a good experience of  Foreign Club. Chand plays as a defender or a defensive midfielder for Nepal and his club .Rohit has played for the clubs like HAL SC and PSPS Pekanbaru.  Chand is the highest paid football in the squad of Nepal National football team.
