Sameer was interested in journalism from a very young age and was fascinated by news presenters. “The core of journalism lies in finding truth which can impact people and their mindset. “The power of mass media is colossal” said Sameer. He couldn’t pursue his interest while he was in school as he had to prioritize his studies yet he remained hopeful about working in mass media soon. Despite getting some discouragement from his family, Sameer’s journey as a journalist started when he got the opportunity to join run a program as a RJ in Hamro FM 94 Mhz, Chitwan. As someone who’s passionate about helping elderlies with their problems, Sameer started running a program called ‘Hamro Ba‘ where he highlights the problems faced by elderly people of our community. This program was a huge success and was wildly popular.

He also works as a VJ in Aviyan TV, Chitwan where he runs a talk show called ‘Pasina Nepali Mato Ma‘ which promotes youth empowerment and entrepreneurship. “In this show, we interview popular youths of his community and highlight their contributions to our society,” said Sameer gleefully. He is also a program coordinator and press head of Timro Group and Senior Reporter at Taranga Creation.

Besides media, Sameer is also passionate about social activism. He is currently involved with Leo Club of his community through which he works as a youth leader. He has done several programs that has positively impacted his community. For instance, he and his team initiated clean drinking water project programs in local schools and conducted Nutritional program for old age homes. He thinks young people like him should be socially responsible.

Sameer is particularly interested in research journalism in order to cater more to accuracy and credibility. “Nepali media scenario has a lot of room to improve but lags a bit behind in research journalism,” he said. He thinks has media has immense power to influence people and make them think about things that are urgent. With the help of research journalism, journalists like him can provide credibility and impartiality to their news and articles.

Glocal Teen Hero and his future plans

He was informed about the platform of Glocal Teen Hero through his classmate and teen hero alumni, Saugat Tiwari. “After I heard about this platform, I was excited about the possibility of the networking opportunity it could bring to me. I want to do many other socially productive work with the recognition I got from Glocal,” he said. Being selected as 20under20 has boosted his confidence and faith on his work.
