Babiyachaur (Myagdi), 16 October 2014: A search has begun since the morning today for the five mountaineers who went missing in an avalanche at the Dhaulagiri Base Camp at Mudi VDC in Myagdi district.
A joint rescue team of the District Police Office, Nepal Mountaineering Association and travel agencies has been searching for the missing people. They went missing after an avalanche struck their camps on Tuesday night.
The rescue team reached the incident site by a helicopter of the Manang Air and started the search, according to Police Inspector Bimal Kumar Upadhyay of the District Police Office, Myagdi.
Deputy Superintendent of the Myagdi Police Janardan GC is leading the rescue teamThose missing in the incident are 60-year-old Mazan Martik and 58-year-old Vladimir Scavar, two Slovaks and their Nepali assistants Gopal Rai of Budel-8, and Dorje Sherpa of Jubing-2, Solukhumbu; and Bhoj Kumar Rai of Moli-6, Okhaldhunga district.
Eight Slovak, two German and 10 Nepalis were rescued on Wednesday.
