Second National Reading Mela Concluded Successfully (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu, January 23, 2018: Shiksha Nepal in collaboration with Himalayan Climate Initiative organized three days event ‘National Reading Mela 2018’ from 20 to 22 January at Rastriya Nachghar, Jamal, Kathmandu.

The three-day long event featured programs such as book exhibition comprising more than ten thousand books, photo exhibition, kabita concert, live book talks, live music, and story presentation of Shiksha Nepal.

Different stalls were set up to sell Nepali and English books. The books were sold at twenty percent discount. According to the organizers, the profit yielded will be used to buy children story books and distribute in villages around Nepal.  As many as 200 volunteers were involved in the event.

Many honorable personalities, influential writers, and celebrities of the country were welcomed present in the event. Madan Krishna Shrestha, Nayan Raj Pandey and Dr.Nabaraj Lamsal were among the speakers for Live Book Talks where they shared their experience and interacted with the visitors about their books. Dr.Baburam Bhattarai was invited in the second day where he took his chance to share his own experience and inspire the youths to read the books.

Prem Bahadur Bohara, Shiksha Nepal’s Founder, explained that the event was organized with the motive to celebrate the joy of reading for self. “We aim to promote a reading culture in Nepal and help every child here have access to the books,” added Bohara.

The event was first initiated in 2017 to spread message on the importance of knowledge and education throughout the country.
