Second National River Summit being held from March 16

Kathmandu, March 15, 2017: In a bid to formulate a strategy to restore river ecosystem and conservation of biodiversity for the effective river management, the second River Summit is being held on the bank of the Trishuli River from March 16-18. The event is being held at Thebetar of Gorkha.

It was shared at a press meet that the Summit to have comprehensive discussions on river management and conservation will have the participation from government, non-government and private sectors, development partners and the dependent communities. The Trishuli understanding would be issued after the Summit.

It is being organized by Nepal River Conservation Trust, Youth Alliance for Development, Tribhuvan University and the Kathmandu University.

Some 160 persons ranging from students to investors, experts, rights workers, and researchers from diverse sectors from India, US, Pakistan, Bhutan and UK are participating in the Summit.

The Summit is expected to be beneficial for the sensitization on importance of pristine rivers and the ecosystem.

Chairman of the Youth Alliance and Investment Sanat Adhikari expressed his concern over restoring the pristine rivers, as many companies have created hindrance with hydropower constructions on free flow of the rivers. It has badly affected the river ecosystem, he added.

The first River Summit was held on the bank of the Sunkoshi River in 2014.
