Gorakha Bazaar, 1 January,2015 : Preparations are afoot to set up a camp of the Armed Police Force (APF) at Samagaon Village Development Committee (VDC) of Gorakha District. The VDC borders Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
Preparations are on to establish an APF camp at the border area of Samagaon VDC in view of the increase in smuggling of valuable herbs,
endangered animals and bird parts towards Tibet from the northern belt of the district, Uddhav Timalsena, the Chief District Officer of Gorakha District, said.
CDO Timalsena said the locals of the northern region have demanded setting up a security post in the border region even for the security of the tourists who, in increasing numbers, have been visiting the northern areas in the district after visiting the Manaslu tourism trekking route of late.
“We have made initiatives for keeping an APF camp at the border area at Samagaon VDC,” he said. The area lies about 100 kilometres from the district headquarters. The border with Tibet is a day’s trek from the district headquarters and the trekking route passes through Samdo of Samagaon.
Locals of northern settlements in the district as Lho and Samagaon have trade transactions with a town across the border in Tibet. They bring food grains, clothes and other merchandise from this town.
CDO Timalsena said that they have also requested Home Minister Bamdev Guatam for setting up a security camp at Samagaon and he has expressed commitment that he would do his best for the same.
The Home Minister had arrived in Gorakha on Wednesday in connection with attending a programme.
