Set to start ‘Organic farming festival’ from Friday

Kathmandu: The 4th Organic Farming Festival will begin on Friday (January 31st) and run until February 3 at Patan Museum. The event is being organized by the Organic Agricultural Association Nepal organized with the help of Kanchenjunga Tea Estate and  Research Center. The four-day long program is being held annually for the past four years, to promote organic food and alert consumers about the benefits of consuming organic products.

According to the organizer, the program aims to promote and create a platform for Nepali organic products. Besides, the participation of international companies will help Nepalese products reach the international market. The Nepalese from other South Asian countries will participate in the event.

The government has announced to establish Nepal as a country of organic farming, this program will present an interactive paper on the challenges and opportunities of organic farming in Nepal. Similarly, paper presentations under the heading Consumers’ right to healthy food and organic foods for health are also done during the program.

More than 50  national and international stalls will be set up including tea, coffee, juice, vegetables, pickles, organic fertilizers, mushrooms, dairy products, herbal products, spices, rice, wheat, corn, pulses, fruits and other food items. An information center and media corner will be installed separately during the event. The organizers expect to make Rs 10 million worth of transactions during the event.
