Birgunj (Parsa),3 Nov 2014: Birgunj Sub-metropolitan City from today has started to dismantle the houses and sheds built by encroaching its land.

The sub-metropolis today tore down the sheds around Ghantaghar (clock tower), a famous landmark of the city.

Bishnu Prasad Koirala, the Executive Officer of the Sub-metropolitan City, said this initiation is launched with an objective to make Birgunj ‘prim and clean’.

“The sub-metropolis had pre-informed the people to duly remove such structures,” Koirala further explained, “The municipality has started dismantling the houses and infrastructures of those who did not obey the instruction of sub-metropolis.”

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided financial aid to manage the roads, drains and sewage in Birgunj.

The locals had been suffering flood during the rainfall because of haphazardly built houses in Birgunj.
