South Korean Grants Assistance For Improving Maternal and Child Health In Mugu

Kathmandu,24 March 2015: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will provide a technical assistance of approximately Rs 490 million (US $ 5 million) to the Nepali government for implementing the Project for Improving Maternal and Child Health Care in Mugu.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to the effect by Finance Secretary Suman Prasad Sharma and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Nepal Choe Yong-Jin on behalf of their respective governments on Tuesday.

The objectives of the project are to strengthen the capacity of health system in terms of providing quality and equitable maternal health services; develop capacity of caregivers, parents, families and communities to make informed decisions to improve maternal health, child health and hygiene situation in Mugu.

The grant assistance will be used for technical support for Mugu District Health Strategy Development, construction of the District Hospital and purchase of equipment and materials necessary for the project implementation, developing health system’s capacity to provide child and maternal health services and conducting public health awareness programmes.

The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Health and Population in collaboration with KOICA which will represent the South Korean government.
