SPECIAL STREET LAMPS INSTALLED FOR SAARC SUMMIT

Kathmandu, Aug. 6: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is set to install special lamps in the main streets of Kathmandu Valley in view of the forthcoming 18th SAARC Summit scheduled to be held here in November.

The NEA has decided to install special lamps in the main streets for the convenience of Summit guests, NEA central branch chief Bhanubhakta Bhattarai said. The special street lamps will not be affected by power outage although the load-shedding hours will increase in November, he added.

The NEA has a plan of keeping the main roads around the Summit venue illuminated in nighttime in view of the SAARC Summit, he said. Our focus will be on installing solar lamps, if not then an uninterrupted power supply from the NEA will be managed to light up main streets, he added.

Most of street lamps installed in the valley are out of condition and old as well and they need immediate maintenance, he said.

The NEA has demanded Rs. 210 million from the Ministry of Finance for its special street lamps installation project.

The NEA plans to install special street lamps from the International Airport to Soaltee Hotel, Jamal to SAARC Secretariat Office, Narayangopal Chowk, and New Road to Hanumandhoka. Simiarly, areas around the Tundikhel, National City Hall and in Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Squares, the possible sites to be visited by Summit guests, will be equipped with special street lamps. RSS
